OpenAI brings GPT-6 to every ChatGPT user with Intelligent UI

GPT-6 replaces the GPT-5.6 line across free and paid tiers, and ChatGPT answers are no longer text only: they can generate charts, forms and small tools you operate directly.

On 7 October OpenAI announced GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT. Paid tiers run on GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go opened the next day on GPT-6 Luna. Two changes matter: the model can compose text, charts, buttons and forms into an interactive interface on demand while still falling back to plain text when that fits better, and it can interleave thinking with answering so you start reading before it finishes reasoning. OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant begins answering 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant on questions needing web search.

Key facts

  • Rolled out to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on 7 October, expanding to Free and Go on 8 October
  • Paid tiers use GPT-6 Sol, Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna, while the Pro reasoning option stays on GPT-6 Astra without Intelligent UI
  • Answers can carry charts, buttons, forms and tools you use inside the conversation, still falling back to plain text when that fits
  • On questions needing web search, GPT-6 Instant begins answering 44% sooner on average
  • The update covers the Chat tab only; Work and Codex models are unchanged, and ChatGPT now exceeds 1.2 billion weekly users

Big Share take

The point is not how much stronger the model got but that the delivery format changed: ChatGPT moves from a text box that answers questions to an interface generator shaped by the question. For everyday users it is a straightforward experience upgrade; for product people it is a reminder that once answers carry working controls, plain-text output becomes the minority case. Do not ignore the cost either: interactive answers are harder to copy, cite and archive, so enterprise governance and export rules need another pass. Note too that only the Chat tab changed while Codex and Work did not, showing OpenAI still keeps consumer chat and productivity on separate tracks.
